About the Property:
Bayfront Marin House is an award-winning inn located in downtown St. Augustine, Florida. It is in the historic district, and across from the Matanzas Bay, just south of the Bridge of Lions.
Guests of Bayfront Marin House have multiple lodging options, including 17 downtown rooms, 8 beach cottages on Vilano Beach, as well as a stylish downtown apartment.
The main house has 15 recently renovated rooms, with beautiful baths, and fresh touches like seaside colors, hardwood floors, and an elegant mix of modern furniture and beloved antiques. The main house was originally three houses:
- the oldest part, which was built of coquina around 1790;
- a Victorian home, built in 1880, with big porches and windows;
- and an eclectic gabled home, built in 1860 just south of the Marin, and moved to its current location in 1900.
The three buildings were integrated and attached in the early 1900s, and the rambling property was maintained as apartments.
Bayfront Marin House was converted to a bed and breakfast in 2003.
Next to the main house is Sanchez House, a historic home built in 1790, which now houses two large luxury suites. Sanchez House has retained much of its Spanish Colonial character, with open frame ceilings and terra cotta tile floors. Its architectural details and design are documented in the Library of Congress; it is the only Spanish Colonial home in St. Augustine open for nightly rentals.
Eight suites in four separate cottages are located oceanside in Vilano Beach. Referred to collectively as the Beachcomber Cottages on Vilano, the suites have all been recently renovated to comfortably accommodate both couples and families. Suites are varied in size and amenities, and sleep from 2 – 6 people, with some boasting large spa baths; sweeping views of the Atlantic; and private decks and porches. One suite and one cottage even have private pools. Vilano Beach is approximately 2.2 miles from St. Augustine’s historic district, and the cottages are roughly 3 miles from the Marin’s main house.
Finally, Bayfront Marin House offers guests who would like to stay for longer periods of time a stylish downtown apartment, located on nearby Marine Street, less than 2 blocks from the main inn. The Marine Street Apartment is located in an historic building across from O.C. White’s; it has two private decks, with views of the bay and City Marina.
Bayfront Marin House is a popular wedding venue as well, hosting almost 70 weddings a year. Up to 60 guests can be accommodated, and both ceremony and reception options are offered.
About the Amenities:
Bayfront Marin House offers its downtown guests a hot breakfast each day. As a Covid-19 precaution, breakfasts are delivered to the guest’s room or served outside at one of the strategically distanced tables. Breakfast baskets are delivered to the beach cottages each morning. Breakfasts include a hot entrée, a homemade baked item, and fruit options.
Happy hour is served by request at the downtown location.
Bayfront Marin House also offers free parking, free wifi, and Hulu Live television. Guests can borrow bicycles, beach chairs, and beach umbrellas.
The inn employs several types of technology to ensure safe social distancing. Keyless locks are on each door. Guests can opt in to a text messaging program that will let them know when their room is ready, and what menu options are offered each day. In addition, guests can use the app to check in, check out, request extra towels, or answer other questions. Each room also has an in-room electronic concierge which has been programmed by the inn’s staff to answer specific guest questions about St. Augustine, as well as the individual property. Guests can ask about favorite restaurants, best attractions, wifi passwords, and where to find the bikes or ice machine.
About the Owners:
Mike and Sandy Wieber purchased the inn in 2010. Before owning Bayfront Marin and moving to St. Augustine, the pair renovated several historic homes, in Galveston, Texas and Cape May, NJ.
This charming waterfront inn is brimming with elegance and stunning views, and, in the balmiest months, serves complimentary homemade ice cream and margaritas.
