Bayfront Marin House Recognized by City
The Bayfront Marin House, an historic inn located in St. Augustine, Florida, can now add the title “award winning garden” to their long list of accomplishments. The small waterfront hotel was recently recognized by the city for their outstanding container gardens.
More than 60 merchants, retailers, hotels, and bed and breakfasts entered the Flowers for La Florida: The 450th City Beautification Campaign and Contest, held from December through April 17. The Bayfront Marin House entered four planters in the contest–two new planters added at the end of their sidewalk, and two flanking the front doors to the historic inn. Planters around the city’s downtown area were judged by popular vote, as well as by a panel of Master Gardeners and volunteers.
The Bayfront Marin House placed second in the winners chosen by the judging panel.
“We were excited just to participate,” says Sandy Wieber, owner of the waterfront hotel. “We are very lucky to have a large outdoor patio, and adding beautiful urns to the pillars next to our sidewalk has really added to our curb appeal. Plus, we loved looking at all of the beautiful plants around town–winning was just the icing on the cake.”
The inn’s planters featured a number of plants in burgundy, pink, yellow, and chartreuse tones to complement the historic building’s yellow and burgundy color theme.
“The contest is over, but we’re looking forward to continuing to plant the containers with colorful plants throughout the year,” says Wieber. “We think that they are a great addition to our garden.”
