11 Reasons to Visit St. Augustine During Easy Season

You can kick back and relax in St. Augustine at our historic Florida hotel,  but you don’t have to slow down if you want to take in all that this ancient and historic city has to offer during this time of year.   1. Less wait time and the ‘coast is clear’! Enjoy the small town feel of St. Augustine without the crowds. You can expect shorter lines while you shop and a more relaxed old town experience strolling down St. George Street. A much shorter wait time at local restaurants is also a plus. Want to see the ocean? You’ll feel like you’re on your own private beach!

  2. It’s easy to keep your cool! Average temperatures this time of year are in the mid to low 70’s–perfect weather to walk through our historic streets.
  3. Surf St. Augustine. The waves during this season are some of the best of the year.

  4. Savor the seasonal craft beer offerings at local breweries. DogRose Brewery is just a short walk from our inn (it does have a parking lot if you prefer). Fall is the perfect time to enjoy their classic German-style Hefeweizen and Maibock. If you enjoy West Coast IPAs, they have a nice selection of them as well! Just outside of town is BOG brewery, another local favorite. For a true St. Augustine experience, try their Smoked Datil Ale, made with local datil peppers.
  5. There are so many festivals and events to choose from!
    • Check out the Aviles Street Fair, September 5-6 on the oldest street in the country. There are flamenco dancers, sword fights, and of course all the excitement of the shops of Aviles–enjoy food, museums, and art galleries, all on one small street! IYKYK…we have three places to stay right in the middle of the activities–our Aviles Street Cottage is at 31 Aviles Street, and our Casita and Hacienda Suites are just next door. Plus, the Marine Street Apartment is a one-minute walk from Aviles Street–the Bayfront Marin House has plenty of options to stay in the middle of it all!
    • Celebrate Whiskey, Wine and Wildlife November 7-9 at Vilano Beach. Seriously…it’s whiskey, and wine and wildlife…what else do you need? Great spirits and wine tastings are artfully combined with inspired cuisine from some of the South’s best chefs and local culinary superstars, with a chance to safely experience coastal wildlife up close. The weekend’s events will raise funds and awareness for Vilano Beach Main Street and the GTM Reserve’s research and education programs. Again…if you’d like to stay close to the action, our beach cottages are just around the corner from the event. Bring another couple and enjoy the recently renovated Ocean View Cottage, or bring a crowd and stay at the Lagoon Cottage, with its private pool.   6. Enjoy St. Augustine’s best, longest music festival–Sing Out Loud, September 5-28. St. Johns County’s Month of Music continues to grow as Sing Out Loud Festival adds more artists and venues to the festival lineup. In addition to 100+ free concerts by local and regional musicians, the event also includes the St. Augustine Songwriters Festival, bringing even more talented artists to St. Augustine venues!   7. Take in the vibrant color – while other areas of the country are experiencing falling leaves, St. Augustine’s flowers are in full bloom.   8. Get spooky in the Oldest City from October 3-31.The Ximenez-Fatio House Museum, 20 Aviles Street, will host Mortality and Mourning: Women in Black candlelight tours. This special event runs October 3-21 at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings at his historic house. Enjoy a guided candlelight tour through the 227-year-old house (spooky enough in daylight, right?) Through powerful stories, period customs, and historic mourning attire, this immersive tour casts new light on how women lived with loss in the 19th century.
