What to Do in St. Augustine: April 16, 2016

things to do st augustine, vilano beach, fl florida, april calendarHave plans for the weekend? If you’re not doing anything on Saturday, April 16, might we suggest that you head over to the pier on Vilano Beach for their first dish and fish event?

St. Augustine holds some pretty awesome culinary competitions–the Great Chowder Debate, for instance, held every November for the past 31 years. (Note: We’ve heard that it will no longer be held at the Conch House this year, as it’s gotten too big for the venue!)

Vilano Beach’s Fish and Dish competition is a new event, but it sounds like a keeper. Held at the Vilano Beach Pier, event organizers are expecting 10 area restaurants to participate in the competition for best fish dish. Adding to the fun are 5 high school culinary teams…I’ve seen kids competing on the Food Network, and I’ll tell you, they are making a little bit more than grilled cheese and eggs (which was about all I wanted to make when I was that age).

Head over to the pier any time after 2:00 on April 16th–there will be lots of music, and food, and fun. Proceeds benefit the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association, as well as the competing high schools’ culinary teams.

See you there!
