We have a guest coming on Sunday night who just asked a great question: Where can we find a nice seafood restaurant in walking distance from the inn? Something romantic would be a plus!
There are about 70 restaurants within walking distance of our St. Augustine bed and breakfast, and being on the water in Northern Florida, there are lots of great seafood restaurants in St. Augustine. I picked a handful that are a short walk (because depending on when you get into town, you might be really hungry!) I also thought about places that have outdoor seating with romantic lighting, because I think that lighting + great weather + great food = romance.
3 Romantic Seafood Restaurants in St. Augustine:
1. OC Whites – On Avenida Menendez, OC White’s is about a block from our St. Augustine inn. The restaurant is in the old Wentworth Mansion, which is a historic stone building that was built in the 1700s. They have a patio area strung with lights (and probably a musician), and they also have a beautiful interior (upstairs would be the most romantic if it’s open). They have several seafood dishes on the menu (crabcake, shrimp, fish), and usually have a fish special. 118 Avenida Menendez.
2. Cellar Six – Located on Aviles, the oldest street in the country, Cellar Six is about a block and a half from the inn. It has outside patio seating (right next to the narrow cobblestone street), and horses will go by throughout your meal. It has shrimp, scallops, crabcakes, ahi tuna and calamari on the menu. 6 Aviles Street.

3. Catch 27 – Located about 6 blocks from the inn, Catch 27 is a small restaurant with a large patio. Their name shows their dedication to local seafood, and they have a fish sandwich, shrimp (or fish) and grits, a great Minorcan clam chowder (the original Spanish settlers in St. Augustine were Minorcans). They also have my favorite appetizer right now, which is deviled eggs on bacon jam, with a perfect fried oyster on top (Pictured at left–photo courtesy of Catch 27). 40 Charlotte Street.
Bonus Suggestion:
St Augustine Seafood Company isn’t as romantic, but it’s a great lunch spot. It’s right on St. George Street, and it’s only been open a few months. They have a selection of fish, shrimp, oysters, conch fritters, and multiple chowders. You order at a counter like a cafeteria, then take a number and they bring the food to your table. Again, not as romantic, but if you’re looking for seafood for lunch on Monday, it is a fun option. 33 St. George Street.
