Pirates of St. Augustine

Saint Augustine’s new Pirate Museum opened today at 2:27. The hub and I were there at 4:10.

I should start with a confession. I don’t like pirates. A couple of weeks ago, it was Pirate Weekend in St. Auggie, and there were hundreds of pirates and wenches wandering the streets, saying “ARRGGHHHH” too often, and banging their pewter mugs against the walls. I mean, it was alright, but I wasn’t ready to jump into a corset and low cut white blouse and start running with the pack, either.

I saw Pirates of the Caribbean. On television. (Parts of it anyway…until some other, better show came on). I thought Johnny Depp looked like he needed a shower. And some makeup remover.

So I wasn’t thrilled about taking a walk through St. Augustine’s newest attraction.

Well, I was wrong. Dead wrong, as the pirates would say (ARRGGHHH).

It turns out that the Pirate Museum isn’t a hokey cheesy tourist stop. It actually is really cool.

A little background: The Pirate Museum is the brainchild of xxx, a guy who likes to collect pirate memorabilia. He built this museum to house his collection
