Lunch in St. Augustine: Best Sandwiches Ever

The best sandwiches in St. Augustine, Florida, as written by owners of a St. Augustine bed and breakfastWhen the hub and I need to run out for a quick lunch, there’s one place that both of us can agree on every time: JP Henley’s.

We first found this place when the inn was closed last year for some rehab work. The contractors would end up turning off the water…or the electric, and we would find ourselves with no bathroom for an extended amount of time.

That’s when we started walking the short block to this little bar. That’s probably why we didn’t go prior to that…we don’t normally hit a bar while we’re working, and when we leave the inn, we don’t really want to go to a bar that’s next door. We mostly want to go to sleep!

But JP Henley’s changed that for us. If you’re into beer, they’re also a great place for that (they have 70 on tap)…but here are the sandwiches we love, pretty much in order:

Rising Sun $10.95

Grilled Ahi tuna with spring greens, tomatoes & wasabi cream dressing served on herbed focaccia bread.

Harvest Moon $8.95

Turkey breast on white toasted with spiced apples & provolone cheese served on herbed focaccia bread.

Matanzas $8.95

Garlic roasted chicken breast, andouille sausage & Spanish machego cheese on herbed focaccia with honey balsamic dressing.

Hawaiian $8.95

Black Forrest ham, pineapple & mozzarella cheese baked on ciabatta bread.

 JP’s Ruben $8.95

Corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut & house made Thousand Island dressing on marbled rye bread.

Chicken Salad $7.95

With honey glazed pecans, grapes & savory herbs on wheat bread.

English Beef & Blue $8.95

Deli roast beef & tangy gorgonzola spread on a sub roll.

Double Decker Turkey Club $9.95

Note: The prices were as listed in October 2013, and could certainly change. But suffice it to say–these are interesting sandwiches for great prices–and each one comes with a side of pasta salad or chips and a pickle. Enjoy!
