You picture a St. Augustine reunion just like in the movies: a large family vacation at the beach. A beautiful location, with amazing views from all the windows.
Children playing Scrabble in the living room, and adults drinking wine and laughing about childhood memories on the porch. Maybe grandma is in the kitchen, making lasagna, or slicing fresh tomatoes for a caprese salad.
It’s not just in the movies, you know! You can make the ideal family vacation happen–right here in St. Augustine at our Beachcomber Cottages.
In the past few days, we have had four requests for information about renting all of the beach cottages for a family reunion. The first question is usually–Do you rent all of them together? (Yes), and the second question is–How many does the property sleep?
The second question depends a little bit on the age of people in your group. We are happy to set up a pack and play for infants in any of our rooms, or a blow up mattress for additional guests. Of course, not all of the rooms lend themselves to multiple guests, so I thought I’d walk through the rooms individually, and give a little overview of what room can sleep extra guests.
First, a little background on the cottages: we have four separate beach cottages, just across the Usina Bridge on Vilano Beach. They are all on a tiny block called Beachcomber Way. The four cottages are split into 8 separate suites, and they are perfect for families–plenty of places to visit with each other, but lots of places for privacy as well. Here is an overview of each:
Saltwater Suite: Sleeps 2. (40 Beachcomber Way)
This is the smallest room at the beach cottages (but don’t worry if you are the one who gets this suite–because it has a PRIVATE PLUNGE POOL). Queen bed, and great shower with body jets. It also has a kitchenette, with a mini refrigerator and microwave.
Lagoon Cottage: Sleeps 5-Can add airbed for total of 6. (40 Beachcomber Way)
Our largest suite, the Lagoon Cottage has a king bedroom with attached bath on the second floor; then a queen, and a separate small room with a single bed on the third floor. They share a small shower, also on the third floor. The Lagoon Cottage also has a private pool–of course, if you are renting the entire property, all the guests in your group can use it.
The Lagoon Cottage also has lots of room to hang out together: a living room/dining room with a sofa and two comfy chairs, and a full kitchen with full sized appliances, just in case you wanted to cook.
Oceanview Cottage: Sleeps 4- Can add airbed for 5. (10B Beachcomber Way)
The Oceanview Cottage is a raised cottage with two bedrooms–both with queen beds–and a shared bathroom with a tub/shower combination. The cottage has a full kitchen and living room, as well as a private porch that overlooks the ocean. Plus, the Oceanview Cottage is the only suite that is pet friendly. There is room in the cottage to set up an air mattress in the living room.
The Oceanview Cottage was featured on HGTV in Beachfront Bargain Hunt.
Dunes Suite: Sleeps 3. (10A Beachcomber Way)
The Dunes Suite is one half of the front blue cottage. It has a queen sized bedroom, and a big luxurious bathroom with a walk in shower and separate air tub. It has a small front bedroom with a single bed, perfect for kids or single adults. The Dunes also has a kitchenette, with a sink, microwave, and mini fridge.
There is a first floor outdoor covered patio that is reserved for guests in the Dunes Suite. Of course, if you rent the entire property, it’s a great place to hang out and visit with a large outdoor sectional, and small table with four chairs.
Royal Palm: Sleeps 4 with sleeper sofa in main bedroom. (10ABeachcomber Way)
The second half of the front blue cottage is home to the Royal Palm. It has a king bed, and sleeper sofa and can sleep four. It also has a full kitchen, breakfast bar, and panoramic views of the ocean. You have a great view of the sunrise from your connected, private deck.
It also has a large bathroom with a jetted tub, and a gorgeous shower with body jets.
Note: Have a larger family? The Dunes and Royal Palm are connected, and can be opened to create one large suite if that better suits your group.
Sandpiper Suite: Sleeps 2-Lots of room for blow up mattress to sleep 4. (21 Beachcomber Way–first floor)
The Sandpiper Suite is on the first floor of our yellow oceanfront cottage. It has a king sized bed, small kitchenette, and an outdoor sitting area that has a view of the ocean.
The Sandpiper Suite is completely handicapped accessible–with a roll in shower, tilted mirror, and roll under sink. If you require additional items, such as a shower bench, or commode riser, please let us know and we can have that set up for your guests.
Atlantic Suite: Sleeps 4 with sleeper sofa in separate room. (21 Beachcomber Way–second floor)
Above the Sandpiper Suite is the Atlantic Suite. It has a king sized bed in a separate bedroom, and a small bathroom with tub/shower combo. The living room has a sleeper sofa.
The Atlantic Suite has the best indoor hang out room, with a dining area that sits six, a large dining room, and a full sized kitchen. It opens to a second floor deck with great ocean views–and your group can relax in the outdoor sofa or swing.
Note: Again, for a larger family, the Atlantic Suite has a locked staircase that can be opened to give access to the third floor Lookout Suite.
Lookout Suite: Sleeps 2-Lots of room for blow up mattress to sleep 4. (21 Beachcomber Way–third floor)
The Lookout is on the third floor of the front yellow house. You access the room either through an inside stairway (let us know if you would like it to be unlocked), or through an outdoor staircase. It has a king sized bed and great panoramic views of the ocean.
The bathroom has a tiled shower and separate jetted tub. It also has a microwave and mini fridge.
Each of the suites has a coffee maker and coffee pods, television, free wifi and onsite parking.
If my math is correct, the cottages sleep 26, without any blowup mattresses. With the maximum number of blow ups, you can sleep a total of 32. Also, if you rent all of the cottages, your party may be eligible for a private, continental buffet for breakfast–just ask us for details.
If the Beachcomber Cottages sound like the perfect spot for your group, give us a call–they book really quickly for the summer!!
