Visit A St Augustine Bed and Breakfast in September for Special Events and Discounted Pricing

music festival, st augustine, free events, 2019There is no better time to visit St. Augustine than in September…cooler autumn breezes, no crowds, and the spectacular Sing Out Loud festival are huge draws to the historic city. And this year, local bed and breakfasts are joining together to make it even more memorable.

St. Augustine Historic Inns are hosting free events throughout September as an extension of the city’s Sing Out Loud festival.

Enjoy “Extended Play” free events on Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays in September. Each of the 24 member inns are planning separate events during the month—from beer and wine tastings, to complementary happy hours to hosting individual musicians.

Special Events at the Bayfront Marin House

Sandy Wieber, Owner of the Bayfront Marin House, was a member of the committee that planned the month-long celebration. “It’s a great way to experience properties and events throughout the city,” says Wieber. “Having the opportunity to visit multiple inns, and enjoy multiple special events…it makes a good time to visit even better.”

As part of the Extended Play event, Wieber’s inn will be hosting two internationally known musicians in September, Jill Sobule and Francis Dunnery.

Jill SobuleJill Sobule will play an intimate house concert on September 8 at 7:30 in the inn’s Sanchez House. Sobule sang the 1995 single “I Kissed a Girl” and the song “Supermodel”, which was recorded for the soundtrack of the 1995 hit movie “Clueless” with Alicia Silverstone.

Sobule has a folksy singing style, but her songs are funny and ironic, and filled with Sobule’s wit and wisdom. See one of her music videos here. (Editor’s Note: yes, that is a cameo by romance novel cover model Fabio. You’re welcome).

If you prefer beautiful ballads, check out the video from “You’re Too Cool to Fall in Love”. Produced by Todd Rundgren, it’s a gorgeous love song that stands the test of time.

Francis DunneryFrancis Dunnery is an English musician, singer-songwriter, record producer and record label owner, and he will be playing on September 12 at 7:30, also at the Sanchez House. Dunnery was originally the front man for British prog-pop band It Bites, working with the band between 1982 and 1990. Since 1990 Dunnery has pursued a solo career. In addition, he has performed as a sideman and musical contributor for artists as diverse as Robert Plant, Lauryn Hill, Santana and Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe.

Dunnery is a true performer, interspersing his songs with stories about his days as a rock star. You can hear his song “Good Life” here.

Tickets for both house concerts are free but are limited; contact the Bayfront Marin House at 904.824.4301 to reserve your seat.

Other Extended Play Activities

There are so many extra events in September, that the inns have created a Passport that lists all Extended Play activities. Guests can attend a complimentary happy hour, listen to local musicians playing in the inns’ parlors or front lawn, or try the latest offering from local breweries.

Exclusive Discounts for Bed and Breakfast Guests

The guest passport also includes exclusive discounts to area restaurants, stores, and bars. In addition, some inns are offering special pricing throughout the month. The Bayfront Marin House is offering a 15% discount from September 3 to September 30 for any guests using the code “SINGOUTLOUD”. Saturdays are excluded from the discount, and the discount cannot be combined with other offers.

“It’s a great way to celebrate all the phenomenal talent in St. Augustine—whether it’s musicians, brewmasters, vineyards, or foodies,” says Wieber. “And because September is in the middle of easy season, visitors can enjoy the city with fewer crowds.”
Wieber says that residents can take a staycation during this activity-packed month as well. “September is a great time to come downtown and spend the night, and the discounts in the passport make it an affordable time too,” she says.
