St. Augustine 2019 Bird and Photo Fest: Making Good Photographers Great Ones

A bird in St Augustine, FloridaGrab your camera and some sunscreen, it’s almost time for the annual St. Augustine Florida’s Birding and Photo Fest!

Florida’s 2019 Birding and Photo Fest takes place April 24-28, with speakers, classroom sessions, field workshops, and tours and excursions in St. Augustine and Ponte Vedra Beach. This year boasts over 110 separate sessions–with events for both beginner and advanced photographers.

If you didn’t know St. Augustine is a great place for photographers, check out our blog on some of the best places to get photos in St. Augustine. Or drool over some of the beautiful nature shots that talented photographers from around the world post from St. Augustine all year long (like the shots in this blog–all captured at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm last year by one of our most talented guests, David Sloas).

April is Picture Perfect in St. Augustine

April in St. Augustine isn’t just known for its beautiful weather (although town is gorgeous in April!), it’s also known for the beautiful birds that are either migrating or mating through the area. Although you can see beautifully colored and plumed birds most everywhere in the spring, it’s particularly amazing at the rookery behind the St. Augustine Alligator Farm. When I went last year, I met international nature photographers who were there capturing the birds at their most beautiful.

Whether you’re an international nature photographer or a just-starting-out novice, there is plenty to learn at Florida’s Birding and Photo Fest.  Participants in the 2019 festival can look forward to the following:

    • Early morning beach photography with horses (a great place to learn about lighting and action photography),
    • Portrait workshops,
    • Workshops focusing on color, composition, and focus,
    • Discussions of the newest techniques such as light painting,
    • Lectures and workshops from world class photographers,
    • Scheduled shoots on boats, in kayaks, and in the Alligator Farm, and
    • A robust contest line up, including a contest for young photographers.

Tickets to all the events above are available at  www.floridasbirdingandphotofest.com. Sign up now before your favorite workshops fill up!
